The Shoestring Collective

It's fantastic that local markets are gaining more & more momentum, giving designers & artisans opportunities to display their talents & get exposure for their products. And at the same time giving everyone else the chance to buy unique, designer goods that are locally produced.

But it does take some willpower to drag yourself out of bed on a cold bleak morning & set up a stall. Especially as, let's face it, Capetonians aren't the best at weathering a storm. So trading can be slow in winter.

And it was from this, that Sera of Handmade by Me had the ingenious idea of opening up a Pop Up Shop. Teaming up with Leila of Bow Peep, they set about curating 16 local designers & have transformed an vacant space in The Gardens Centre in to a shoppers heaven.

They've spent hours folding beautiful origami birds for the huge window display, decorating the interior & filling the shop with goodies to suit everyone.

It's a great location - there's nothing like this in Gardens & once you see what they have to offer, you'll never want them to leave!

They've stocked up with an amazing collection of products which are really reasonably priced and they opened this week Monday to trade for a month.

So visit, enjoy, shop & support local design!

Already on my wish list are : gold ceramic deer, grey sequin jacket from Good Clothing & a few more beautifully printed tea-towels from Handmade by Me. ♥
